Housing a modern forge in an open-air museum.
We integrated a forge in an existing barn in the Haspengouw zone of the open-air museum Bokrijk. In order to create a large, open space, we replaced two wooden spans with transverse beam bracings by interconnected large steel porches. They carry the weight of a forge pulley system.
In the barn, a polished concrete floor was installed, with loose edges. Adequate foundations for the heavy equipment of the forge were integrated in the floor.
The forge is fitted out with a double-walled chimney and fire-resistant plates.
