This elongated home required a well considered interior design in order to ensure privacy from the surrounding area and offer plenty of user comfort. The architecture responds partly to the need to ensure privacy through the positioning of the various rooms; the office on the western side has an optimal relation with the surrounds. As the functions move more towards the east, the facade becomes increasingly closed. That results in limited street contact from the kitchen and dining area and absolute privacy in the lounge and bedroom. The continual window on the southern façade means that the rooms nevertheless overflow into each other as one whole. 

Binding and dividing element

Cupboards play a major part in the interior design. For instance, the office furniture is an extension of the wall cupboard in the corridor to the wardrobe. This cupboard forms the transit between kitchen and office. The lounge has an intimate character thanks to the positioning behind a TV cabinet, hearth cabinet, and storage cupboard. The semi-transparent cupboard retains visual contact with the rest of the living area and offers a different experience on each side.  

In the night section a wall cupboard separates the landing from the bathroom and the sleeping quarters. 

Daylight welcome

The night zone is designed with a philosophy of ‘maximum daylight and privacy’. And so, the master bedroom benefits from a glazed wall on that level. Thanks to a closed garden wall, the adjoining terrace and the bedroom are kept out of sight. Thanks to this philosophy and the line of view from the centrally located shower, there is an Unlimited view of the landscape. In the bathroom, roof lighting provides the required daylight. The positioning of a light beam covering the width of the bathroom at the edge of the roof creates light over the mirror. 

Minimalist shades

The client had explicitly requested a minimalist atmosphere built around shades of black and white. This results in a mix of concrete floors with wood lacquered in black and white. Swamp oak gives the whole structure a natural and warm touch.
