Although this residence presents a closed appearance to the surroundings, it is bathed in sunlight. The large windows in the front facade accentuate the entrance area. The two storey high windows reveal how the height in this space is used to the maximum. The two storeys are involved in the entrance area.
Closed openness
The remaining windows have been very carefully placed to ensure the privacy of the residents. Thus we admit daylight to the bedrooms from patios that are closed off from the outside world.
The living area is also conceived as closed, which gives it a feeling of security. The broad view from the kitchen and the view of a pond from the reading area compensate for the closed quality.
The closed facades on the upper floor increase the massiveness of the residence. The glued, grained brick – that was used here for the first time in Belgium – emphasizes that feeling. Thanks to the colour shading of the brick, the volume has a warm appearance.
A great experience
The pleasantness of each area was the starting point in the design. Each area has its own character. The varied floor levels emphasize their distinct identity.
The pool house and swimming pool lie in the extension of the closed living area. Thus visitors do not have a direct view of the swimming pool. The pond brings an experience of water to the living area.
